Community is Key!

If you live in a small town, you probably have heard how important community is to the people living there. That’s usually one of the reasons why people love to live in a small town! Community. Closeness. You can count on those around you to be there for you when you need them. You can count on seeing the same cashiers at the register every time you make a run to the grocery store. If there’s a local coffee shop, the same baristas greet you with a smile and know your drink. Community is important. It is key.

The same goes for the wedding community of vendors. Establishing a broad community and working with one another is so important to the success of our careers and the success of making the couple’s wedding day as special as it can be. (Shoutout to any of the amazing vendors we worked with and have befriended! We appreciate you so much! You know who you are…!)

Tim and I discovered this quickly when we started this business. The best way to ensure a wedding goes smoothly for the couple (and even for everyone else) is to work together with the other vendors. Every (good) vendor wants the same thing—to make this day special for the bride and groom. I’ve heard from a couple vendors we have worked with say the same thing: “We are all on the same team.” Nothing could be more true. We are all in the business of making the wedding day one to remember—in the best way possible.

For us wedding filmmakers, the person we need to become best friends with on the day of the wedding is the photographer. We must work together as we are both aiming to capture the day—that includes everything from letting each other know where the other is standing to letting one another know when plans in the schedule randomly change—like the speeches got bumped up in the schedule aaaaaand we are still at our table eating! Yes, that has happened before. But keeping in constant communication with the photographer is so helpful to both us and them. We don’t want them to miss out on any important moments of the day, and they don’t want us to either.

One of the best rewards from making friends with photographers is the friendship you gain that comes along with a shared understanding from experience in the industry and helping each other reach more couples! We love working with past photographers and love that we can both refer each other’s businesses to couples! Bottom line—we want our couples to have the best experience. Your wedding vendors are in it together and are all always Team Bride & Groom.
